We explored practical tools and insights on setting goals for a productive and purposeful year with experts in personal branding and finance.

Africa Village Square kicked off the year today January 18 with an energizing and impactful Personal Development Session—and what a way to begin 2025! Thank you to everyone who attended, asked thoughtful questions, and contributed to such vibrant discussions.

We extend our deepest appreciation to our incredible speakers — Michael Osakwe, CFA, Sonia Silva, and Ore Akinboboye — for sharing practical, actionable wisdom across some of the most important areas of personal growth. And special thanks to Ganesh Asirvatham, who expertly moderated the session and helped shape a seamless flow of ideas throughout the day.

Together, we explored practical tools and insights on:

Setting Goals for a Productive and Purposeful Year

Drawing from his workshop on goal-setting, Michael Osakwe, CFA challenged us to rethink how we set and pursue goals. He emphasized the power of writing goals down, breaking them into meaningful actions, establishing support systems early, and embracing disciplined consistency—reminding us that no framework works unless we do.

Building and Managing a Strong Personal Brand

Sonia Silva shared lessons from her unique career path spanning finance and social impact. She stressed the importance of defining your value, showing up consistently across platforms, building credibility through visibility, and using tools like LinkedIn strategically—from crafting standout summaries to leveraging content and recommendations to grow your professional presence.

Taking Charge of Personal Finances

From practical budgeting insights to thinking long-term about financial planning, Ore Akinboboye‘s session equipped attendees with clarity on how to approach money management with confidence and intentionality.

We were also honored to have Mosope (Mo) Arubayi join us to provide macroeconomic context from across the African continent—an important reminder of how global and regional trends shape our personal and professional decisions.

This gathering marked a powerful start to what promises to be another incredible year as we continue building a vibrant, supportive, and growth-oriented community.

A huge thank-you to Sekou Kromah for capturing these memorable moments through his lens, and to Derek Kastner and the Fabrik team for hosting us in the perfect space.

Here’s to a year of growth, purpose, and community—together.

We hope to see you at the next event!
